Greening the 2016 Leukemia Cup

Summer Gala, Regatta & Rock the Dock for a Cure Party

Friday & Saturday, June 3 - 4

The exciting Regatta weekend hosted by Eastport Yacht Club raises money to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the fight against blood cancers. The weekend includes the Summer Gala, the Off the Water Races, the Regatta Cup, and the Rock the Dock For a Cure Party, giving Maryland boaters and residents a chance to join the cause and support the 24th Annual Annapolis Leukemia Cup.

Annapolis Green is helping Eastport Yacht Club and Leukemia Cup organizers reach Gold Level Clean Regatta certification from Sailors for the Sea with assistance from major sponsor
Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation, and sponsor Back Creek Conservancy.

What Does Sailors for the Sea Clean Regatta Certification Mean?

Sailors for the Sea provides "the world’s only sustainability certification for water-based events. Over 800 regattas, gams, rallies and cruises have been registered as Clean Regattas. One part education, two parts activation, the program unites and mobilizes sailors by offering support and resources to help conserve and protect the ocean." There are no better ambassadors and advocates for the oceans and our waterway than sailors.

In order to obtain Clean Regatta certification at the Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Participating Level, regatta and event managers must employ a certain number of best practices in th areas listed below. Eastport Yacht Club and the Leukemia Cup are striving for Gold Level certification, which means that 19 or more best practices will be followed, including:

  • Establishing a Green Team

  • Public Engagement

  • Water Bottle Reduction

  • Water Refilling Stations

  • Recycling

  • Composting

  • Trash Free Regatta (nothing to the landfill)

That's quite an achievement!
