The Mission of Annapolis Green
Connect. Communicate. Motivate. Accelerate. Celebrate.
These are the action words that begin to describe the mission of Annapolis Green and the unique niche it fills in this area’s sustainability initiatives.
Annapolis Green fills a unique need, connecting the community by communicating an environmental message that is meaningful, positive and motivational, engaging residents, businesses, non-profits, government agencies, and visitors.
Our goal is to make Annapolis the greenest city in Maryland—a place where sustainability is a way of life and a source of pride—by accelerating the work of the legions of dedicated, wide-berthed environmentalists and celebrating successes.
Once a month Annapolis Green brings together a diverse group of approximately 200—and growing—environmental movers and shakers for socializing, sharing of information and a good time at the wildly popular, hip and cool Green Drinks Annapolis gatherings. The synergy created in that “fun side of eco-awareness… making serious connections” continues to be an invaluable, and unique, opportunity for people to meet, make business connections, and share information—unafraid of adding a little fun to their concern for the Chesapeake Bay and our environment in general. Online a wealth of information is shared on annapolisgreen.com, including the area’s most comprehensive environmental calendar of events.
In person and online, Annapolis Green is a catalyst of leadership, a unifying force, the hub of the area’s environmental wheel... leading the Eco-Evolution!

In 2006 Green Drinks Annapolis started with just a few folks who were interested in networking events with environmentally minded people.
Through our gatherings we’ve “practiced what we preached” by supporting the local economy and encouraging area restaurants and other businesses who’ve hosted us to Go Green.
We’ve held events at over 30 locations throughout the years. To ALL of our supporters, we say a great big THANK YOU!
Our success is rooted in our uniqueness. We are the only social networking organization to provide a forum where people who are involved or interested in all facets of Earth-friendly living and working can literally be social and come together in person regularly to learn, share ideas, make connections, get to know one another, conduct business and, oh yeah… have fun!
It’s fascinating to learn of so many green related businesses and initiatives that have started up just within the last year. Our group's goal is to bring together all of us who share a passion for the environment and concern for our Chesapeake Bay. Casual, fun, unstructured .... with drinks and great green ideas! Pass the word and email us to tell us who we should add to our roster.
Long ago, in a place far, far away... No, not really. It started with a couple of friends talking about how it's not easy to get the big picture of Green initiatives in the Annapolis area. Why not gather info from the community and put it all in one place for the benefit of all?
That's exactly what we're doing. The Annapolis Green website/Green Drinks combo was was the brainchild of Elvia Thompson and Lynne Forsman.
Lynne's a hospitality gal … over 25 years now, but who’s really counting? From a beginning with Marriott, opening a world class property in downtown San Francisco, to launching a meeting and incentive company, she finally “docked” in Annapolis to start up Nautical Destinations offering customized group charters on the Chesapeake. Her idea of a “Go Green” boating program set the stage for her next chapter – Green Drinks Annapolis! These days Lynne pursues her passions … you guessed it, hospitality and greening! In addition to Annapolis Green/Green Drinks Annapolis, she consults with Maryland Green Travel (under the Maryland Green Registry) and assists eCruisers, LLC, “Advertising that Moves People” electric shuttles with sales. She’s involved in countless industry organizations including the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau and the Green Meeting Industry Council . Lynne is a member of the Coordinating Council of the Four Rivers Heritage Area and is on the Board of Maryland Life Magazine.
Elvia is a Board member of the Spa Creek Conservancy and the Annapolis Maritime Museum; a member of the Anne Arundel County Steering Committee of the Maryland League of Conservation Voters; co-chair of the Anne Arundel County Commercial Recycling Advisory Committee; a member of the Eastport Civic Association's Eco-Action Committee; a graduate of the Leadership Anne Arundel Flagship Class of 2011 and an Anne Arundel County Master Watershed Steward. Retired from journalism and a communications career in the Federal government that included time at the Department of Defense and NASA, Elvia heads a successful web and print design business in Annapolis, Stellar Presentations, Inc. She is an avid sailor.
Annapolis Green also has a loosely formed advisory/volunteer group whose members help us set agenda and carry out events. The group includes: Karin Hannah Stern, Sandy Williams, Leslie Redwine, Meghan Matthews, Cathie Trogdon, and Leslie Trott Givens-Neff.
Looking to the future, we’re making it official and are filing for non-profit status. Entering into this new chapter we will secure grant money and donations to expand our effect on our local our Green community. This will allow us to help fledging Green companies get started, sponsor educational and entertaining (that is, fun) programs, provide a reference point for Green businesses, and share information in new and exciting ways.
We welcome your ideas on how to make this a real community effort, providing needed information to all. We hope you will join us in our journey to Green! Let’s keep the momentum going!
The Keith Campbell Foundation for the Environment nominated our own Lynne Forsman, founder of Green Drinks Annapolis, for a Tribute to Women and INdustry (TWIN) award. It was presented at a gala dinner on June 3, 2010, in Annapolis.
Sponsored by the YWCA Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, TWIN focuses on women who are on the management teams of companies. The TWIN Award has been given to outstanding professional women who represent a wide range of ages, races and religions throughout the County for the past 25 years.
In February 2011, on the fifth anniversary of Green Drinks, we were lauded by the local representatives of the House of Delegates, the County Council and the Annapolis Mayor. Click on the image to see the citations and proclamation.
