Annapolis Green helped "Green" the Maryland Maritime Heritage Fest

We hope you stopped by our Eco-Smart Village at the Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival on City Dock this weekend May 2-4.

maryland maritime heritage fest logoThe organizers of the festival asked us to help "Green" the festival, and we did, in a big way. Our Eco-Smart Village was the focal point of environmental information at the festival.

What could be more fitting to a Festival honoring the Bay and its heritage than to add a touch of "green" to help ensure its sustainable future!

Wes Sims, President and Founder of Fusion Modular, was our Village Guru. He and his colleagues biult, on-site, an example of a sustainably-built house that was the focal point of the Village. The house was open on two sides and only 12 x 12 feet, but it illustrated how home building or renovation can be kind to the Earth.

The house had an innovative hot water system, a composting toilet, solar panels on the roof, a rain barrel to harvest storm water, and a rain garden into which the water can flow. There was also a garden of edible plants - not all of which were vegetables! Inside there was information about energy saving appliances, and examples of environmentally friendly countertops.

Next to the house were exhibitors from businesses and non-profit organizations that are committed to the environment - all under the banner of Annapolis Green! Our grass-roots movement has really taken off!

Although not our "own" party, we added our Green touch by showing up in force and sharing our thoughts on the environment and the Bay.
